2020

The 39th Go For The Gold Regatta was scheduled for June 6th and 7th 2020, but in the middle of March, the first signs of Covid-19 began to appear in the US. It soon became apparent that the virus would be around for a while and our lives would be significantly different. The decision was made to cancel the annual regatta for the first time in its 39 year history. As it turned out, it was the correct decision due to the social guidelines that has been put into place before June to limit the spread of the virus. In a stroke of irony, the weekend on which the cancelled regatta would have been held, the temperature and wind conditions on the empty lake couldn't have been more perfect.

Sunday started with the wind opposite its normal direction and light, then stopping for a while as it clocked around to "normal" finally filling in over the dam by 1:30. Saturday saw rain, then some blue sky and some wind - enough to get started at 11:45. Then enough wind to fit in two more races. The four starts included Open Keel, Catalina 22 Far West Region 10 Championship, Banshee, and Open Centerboard.
